About REGREEN | REGREEN Residential Remodeling
For these reasons and many others, the REGREEN program was created through a partnership between the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Foundation and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The scope of REGREEN emerged from conversations occurring among a variety of residential building experts convened at the Pocantico Conference Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in April of 2007.
REGREEN was launched in March 2008 with the release of the REGREEN Residential Remodeling Guidelines. The REGREEN guidelines were developed by a diverse group of industry experts and went through a public comment period, providing all interested parties and stakeholders a chance to provide feedback.
The guidelines address the major elements of any green renovation project, including the site of the home, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, and indoor environmental quality. The guidelines blend product selection, building systems integration and proven technologies into a seamless compilation of green strategies and case studies for the homeowner, builder and design professional. The REGREEN guidelines can be applied to a variety of home projects, from remodeling a kitchen to adding a major addition, from redoing a back yard to executing a gut rehab. Homeowners can either use the guidelines for their own do-it-yourself projects or visit with a professional who can apply REGREEN as a design guideline.
Since its release, the REGREEN guidelines have been downloaded more than 100,000 times. Although the guidelines remain the foundation upon which REGREEN is based, the program has grown to include a series of other remodeling resources, presentations, educational offerings, and of course, this website. Professionals can also demonstrate their mastery of REGREEN principles and practices by completing REGREEN coursework and receiving a REGREEN Trained certificate of completion.
The REGREEN program has been made possible only through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, staff members, and others in the ASID and USGBC community. Special thanks as well to the BuildingGreen team for their substantial and invaluable contributions to its creation.
